Liam Scarlett Sexual Misconduct
Scarlett was suspended by the Royal Ballet in 2019 after allegations of sexual misconduct against his former students. In March 2020, the Royal Opera House, which is home to the Royal Ballet Company, said that an independent investigation had concluded.
The investigation concluded there “were no matters to pursue in relation to alleged contact with students of The Royal Ballet School,” but the company terminated its relationship with Scarlett and canceled planned productions of his work.
On April 16, 2021, the Royal Danish Theatre in Copenhagen canceled performances of Scarlett’s “Frankenstein,” scheduled for next year, over alleged misconduct towards several members of their staff during rehearsals in 2018 and 2019, the Times of London reported.

Ballet choreographer Liam Scarlett has died at the age of 35, a year after leaving the Royal Ballet amid allegations of sexual misconduct.
On Sunday, a statement from his family said: “It is with great sadness that we announce the tragic, untimely death of our beloved Liam.
“At this difficult time for all of our family, we would ask that you respect our privacy to enable us to grieve our loss.”
Scarlett became one of the UK’s best-known choreographers after being named artist-in-residence at London’s Royal Ballet in 2012, putting on a number of productions to rave reviews.
His works for the Royal Ballet include Despite, Vayamos al Diablo, Consolations And Liebestraum, Asphodel Meadows, Hansel And Gretel, Jubilee pas de deux, which was in celebration of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, and a new production of Swan Lake.
Scarlett also worked with a host of other high-profile ballet companies, including the English National Ballet, the New York City Ballet, the American Ballet Theatre and the Norwegian National Ballet.
However, his career was cut short in 2019 when he faced allegations of sexual misconduct against students, leading to his immediate suspension by the Royal Ballet.
A subsequent investigation by the Royal Opera House, which is home to the Royal Ballet Company, found no evidence of wrongdoing and concluded that “there were no matters to pursue in relation to alleged contact with students of the Royal Ballet School.”
Though no charges were brought, Scarlett departed the Royal Ballet after the investigation concluded. The Royal Opera House had confirmed: “Liam Scarlett’s position with The Royal Ballet ended on 23 March, 2020.”

The wellbeing and safety of our employees is a high priority for us. We therefore do not wish to perform the works of the choreographer in question until further notice and Frankenstein in the spring of 2022 has therefore been cancelled.”
